HealthIT Clinical Directors are clinically experienced professionals who also have extensive training and expertise in the evidence-based practice of clinical informatics, covering a broad array of domains that directly affect patient care and the tools used to provide it: standards and terminologies, clinical decision support, interoperability, design and usability, implementation and support strategies, and content and change management. They also have expertise in specific functional areas such as clinical documentation, order entry, workflow management, population health, and communication tools.

Clinical Directors serve HealthIT by Providing input in the analysis, design, and development of projects that reflect best practices from an informatics standpoint. This input combines academic perspective and direct interaction with patients and healthcare providers where discussions can focus on problems to be solved with evidence-based or innovative, novel solutions. Clinical Directors also maintain professional certification and membership in professional organizations. They represent HealthIT by attending and presenting at informatics conferences, publishing literature on HealthIT accomplishments, and providing educational opportunities to the Vanderbilt community.
